What is a cybersecurity CTF?

A Capture The Flag, or CTF, is a cybersecurity competition where participants test their skills by solving technical ethical hacking challenges to find and capture hidden “flags”. It is one of the most hands-on, interactive ways to learn and prove your skills in information security.

What types of CTF are there?

Jeopardy

Jeopardy

You solve standalone challenges by category (web, crypto, forensics...) and score points for each flag.

Attack and Defence

Attack and Defence

Each team defends its own systems while attacking everyone else's, in real time.

Mixed

Mixed

Starts with standalone challenges and ends with an attack and defence phase. The most complete.

Make the event your own

Make the event recognisably yours. We add branded merchandising, custom signage and whatever setting you need so the event feels part of your company, not a generic service.

How we organise your cybersecurity CTF or hackathon, step by step

We set the goal and the level

We look at your specific needs: number of participants, prior knowledge, format (on-site, online or hybrid) and the goals of the event (training, team building, assessment or awareness).

We set the goal and the level

We design tailor-made challenges

We create bespoke cybersecurity challenges (Cryptography, Web, Forensics, Reverse Engineering, Ethical Hacking) and set up an intuitive, scalable platform with a real-time scoreboard.

We design tailor-made challenges

Experience the competition live

On the day, our team of experts runs the event, answers technical questions, manages the hints and keeps motivation and pace high throughout the competition.

Results and reports

At the end, we deliver a detailed report with performance metrics, challenge solutions (write-ups), a map of the skills detected and the diplomas or prizes.

We help you organise your hackathon

If the teams at your event are going to build a product from scratch instead of solving ready-made challenges, that is a hackathon. We organise those too. With more than 300 events run as a company, including our time at INCIBE, we bring the same rigour to university, corporate and open innovation hackathons.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a CTF and a hackathon?

In a hackathon you build a product or prototype from scratch in a limited time. In a CTF you solve ready-made cybersecurity challenges, hunting for "flags" that prove you have beaten them. You do not code something new, you break something that already exists.

Which CTF format suits me: Jeopardy, attack-defence or mixed?

Jeopardy is the most accessible and the most common for beginners or broad audiences. Attack and defence demands a higher level but is the most realistic. Mixed combines both and is the one we usually recommend when participants have different levels.

Can I organise a CTF at my school or university?

Yes, it is one of the formats we run most. We adapt the difficulty of the challenges to your students' level and take care of all the technical logistics of the event.

And at my company, for training or recruitment?

Yes. We design the challenges around the goal: training your technical team, assessing candidates in a recruitment process or simply running an internal competition with a real training component.

Do you organise hackathons as well as CTFs?

Yes. With more than 300 events run as a company, including our time at INCIBE, we apply the same operational rigour to university, corporate and open innovation hackathons.

Can the event be on-site, online or hybrid?

All three formats are possible, for both CTFs and hackathons. We choose the one that fits best based on the number of participants, the location and the goal of the event.
